Game Elements PC Recoil gamepad drivers

Awhile ago I bought this cheap gamepad from WalMart and since then I had lost the driver CD. I had a difficult time locating a driver online, but finally did.

Update: The original link is now dead. I’m now hosting the file here.

Update2: Apparently AVG throws a false positive on this file. It’s not a virus, people. Feel free to use an online virus scanner to double check.

Update3: I can’t believe people are still downloading this file. Does anyone notice that this post was originally wrote over 4 years ago? What are the chances that the “Game Elements PC Recoil” you bought recently is even the same device that this driver was wrote for?

I have the original CD as well if anyone needs the drivers for it.

Jeb  on February 1st, 2006

I bought this pad as well. For the 12 bucks I paid for it it’s pretty decent.

Dustin  on February 1st, 2006

I agree, Jeb. I really can’t name any downsides to the product.

On another note, I discovered that if you’re running XP SP2, you don’t even need the drivers since the generic drivers work just fine!

The drivers that were included with my version which I bought over a year ago were bunk. I don’t recall exactly what the problem was but it involved games not working correctly with the functions of gamepad. It was a big hassle to find a newer version of the drivers.

Ortholocks  on February 4th, 2006

Thanks, BTW I got Xp pro SP2 and I can’t get it to work with some apps like my roms

Sean  on April 27th, 2006

The download link for the driver is dead. Can somebody please e-Mail me another link?

Dustin  on April 28th, 2006

I’ve updated the post with a new link to the driver.

Tinytacohead  on May 23rd, 2006

This has to be the worst gamepad I’ve ever used, and it has the most horrid support I’ve ever seen, lol. It works, but not with some games, and it took alot of digging for me to come upon this driver. Thanks for posting it though. Only good things I can say for this controller are it fits in my hands well, and I like the retractable wire – though it looks easily broken.

Tinytacohead  on May 23rd, 2006

oh yea – my analog sticks are very sloppy in terms of registering movement in games.

HJW  on May 24th, 2006

I can’t get “Tetris Worlds PC” to recognize my Gemini Game Elements PC Recoil game pad.

Tetris Worlds PC does have configurable game pad controller capability, as per the manual. The game itself appears to be functioning normally with the Keyboard controls. But the program only lists “Keyboard” as the control option on its configuration screen on my PC. The game pad does show up under Control Panel>Game Controllers>Installed Game Controllers as “GGE908 PC Recoil Pad – Status OK”. I don’t have any games it plays with yet, but it does respond ok when I manually calibrate the controller under Properties. The Recoil game pad is the only gaming device installed, & it is the selected “Preferred Device” under Game Controllers Advanced settings.

Any thoughts on why “Tetris Worlds PC” is not finding this game pad – even though Windows sees it, & the hardware appears to be working properly, & the software is correctly installed from disk? Is there any way I can get the program to see it so that I can select & use it instead of just the keyboard?

I am running Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Service Pack 2. The driver version on the manufacturer disk matches the one posted here.

I just installed Tetris Worlds & would really like to use it with the game pad… Using a keyboard for a video game is a bummer. : \

Many Thanks!

I don’t understand what you are asking. If you can’t download it, what is asking you to plug it in?

been using this gamepad since the first time i saw it at walmart… was skeptical at first because it was so cheap, but it proved to me that the price had no effect on performance… it’s been a great pad and works with every game i’ve tried it on

Eddie  on August 1st, 2006

Looks like Gemini kicked the bucket. They should at least have a minimum driver website hosted instead of abandoning people. Thanks for the driver. It would seem that on a few PCs with SP2, the driver would crash when I clicked the “Effects” tab, which would calibrate the vibration. It turns out that SP2 has built-in support for controllers with this many buttons now. Thanks for the driver, though.

Dana  on September 3rd, 2006

Thanks for the drivers. My main (and only) complaint with this gamepad is how the directional buttons register on games.

It is very poor, and if I am moving quickly in a game it doesn’t always register. The rest of the buttons are fine, just the directional pad and analog stick.

I regret not getting a better gamepad :(

Even after gettin the driver from here (I have the original CD, but somehow there arent drivers on it) I still cant get this thing to install on my PC this is a sewriously flawed controller and i feel like I wasted my money.

Nick  on October 6th, 2006

Basically my problem is when Wizard tries to install the controller. Right at the beginning of the part where it attempts to install the software files I get the following message: ”The file ‘hidusb.sys’ on Windows Driver Cabinet is missing.” Further more the install stops at that point and im left with nothing else to do. Can someone plz tell me what is wrong? I would be appreciated.

Nick  on October 6th, 2006

Problem solved, found the driver (hidusb.sys was missing from my system driver cache, i found one and downloaded it) controller seems to be installed now. Thanks again for the driver :) . Peace out.

i tried using this with marvel ultimate alliance and it just crashes when i plug it in..if i plug the ocntroller in first and then run the game it wont even load…works fine in mame though.. any suggestions, i tried uninstalling the disk drivers and just using the windows drivers from sp2 but the same thing happens

Justin Okeke  on November 13th, 2006

Will this driver work with the GGE909 gamepad? I have the GGE 909 gamepad and the vibration feature has never worked. Also, the Ec and ENter buttons are not recognized. Why is that? Why would they put those buttons on the controller if ou are not able to use them? I’m hoping its because I never had the driver CD from when I first bought it.

Rols  on November 14th, 2006

Thanks. Been looking for this for a while. :)

Foxtrot360  on November 15th, 2006

I bought this stupid thing, I pressed the button retract the cord, and the cord went in SIDEWAYS and got bent and now theres some wires sticking slightly out of it! I got to try it with Price of Persia and it was OK. Next time im buying a Playstation 2 to PC USB adapter so I can use my PS2 controller.

I am taking this crap back to WalMart and hopefully I will get a refund. I am just gonna lie and say it isnt compatible with my PC.

Why did they make it such poor quality! idiots. Its a fucking ribbon cable, everyone knows you shouldnt leave those exposed and unprotected when theyre easily ripped or broken.

rerawho  on November 18th, 2006

I bought the Game Elements GGE909 to play games on my PC. I found that when I play the THQ MotoGP3 morotcycle race game, after 15 minutes the bike will lean to the left making it very difficult to control the bike. I actually bought two of them. I switched to the second one and it works for about the same amount of time and then it will do the same thing. The bike will lean to the left. What gives??? Any thoughts besides that the controller is a piece of shit???

wut do i do after i install it? nuthing happens and theres no icon or file to let me set up controls

G  on November 27th, 2006

(off topic)

Do you know how to get the rumble pad (vibration) in GGE909 work? I tried it in Nfl 2004 & nba 2005 and all buttons work inside the game. But the vibration motors never kicked in.

I just don’t know whether the games don’t support vibration or is it the pad that sucks. (This is my first game pad)

Terrance  on November 27th, 2006

I play Need for speed carbon demo and it had rumble support and i didn’t need to do anything to get it to work. mabe you need to find settings in start up of your game.
This works great in roms and in all my other games. you may sometimes need to enable this controller in game or click on the ‘GGE909 PC Recoil Pad’ icon on your desktop after you install it to get it to work for games that don’t support controlers.
I just have one problem. GTA SA game, when i play the analog sitck ‘left’ moves to the left and im not even moving it!

Elliott Lewis J.R  on December 1st, 2006

Thank you so much I bought the Pad about 1 month ago. The first Day i instaled it I lost it, been lookin for it ever sence online.Good lookin out!
You deserve Mad Props.

JD Maison  on December 3rd, 2006

I think the company went out of business. When I tried to use the install disk that came with the gamepad, Windows thought it was malware, a very bad sign. For it’s price range it works very well, It saves a lot of wear and tear on my laptop, and it comes in handy when playing SNES or N64 roms(the C buttons can be mapped to the right analog stick).

I have the recoil pad as well. It’s always worked until I bought Ultimate Alliance and then it won’t let the game run.

I just uninstalled the drivers and let Windows use it’s own driver and it works fine. I think the only loss is no vibration now. I never cared for that anyway.

Hope that helps those trying to play Marvel Ultimate Universe

JJ  on January 1st, 2007

I just got this controller too, the Vibration does not work, even in the game pad propertiest to test settings. what am I doing wrong.

RADAR_Brian  on January 2nd, 2007

If you don’t install the driver, the vibration probably won’t work.. if you do install it, there is a tab in the game controller settings called EFFECTS where you can increase the amount of shaking…

EMoss  on January 17th, 2007

I bought this controller 2 weeks ago. I used the original install CD but did not change the mapping from the Defaults. I then shut the program down using Windows Task Manager(control + alt + delete, click the processes tab, select the program, then click End Process). The contoler still worked great and the rumble worked as well. No Problems…

Up until today. Now when I play NFS the car pulls hard to the left. I remapped the controls in NFS so I steer with the Right stick. It aint only the left stick tha goes bad. Maybe it has something to do with the programming.

STAY AWAY from this controller. It’s only 14 bucks but why waste the money.

Anyone know of a better replacement that has similar functions??

Is there anyway to get this controller to work for call of duty. I tried just about everything to get it to work and still nothing. 14.00 spent for a bogus item.

Dustin  on February 17th, 2007

I don’t know Kevin. However, you will be at a great disadvantage if you use this controller to play CoD. The keyboard and mouse are far superior to a game pad for almost all FPS games.

Kevin  on February 18th, 2007

Hey thanks for the advice

Scott  on February 18th, 2007

I just got the GGE909 Recoil controller. It tests fine, it downloaded fine. Tryed to play Halo & Metal of Honor and nothing. The dang controller is usless. I’ve calibrated it and tried to reset the default buttons. The only thing that works is the escape & enter buttons or when I put the mouse button on I can barley look around in Halo. Any suggestions? If not, I suggest that anyone reading this, stay clear of anything from Game Elements and Recoil.. From what it sounds like, they already went out of business.. Go Figure!!!!
Any suggestions please respond to unbeliveablesm@yahoo.com thanks!

no1  on February 26th, 2007

you have to set the buttons two keyboard commands like the 1-4 buttons click on it then choose the button you want it to relace like a for attack.
when you go to in game controller options youcan then just hit the button you want to be asighned and on some games like doom 3 you have to use the mouse func. and be ajusted through speed on the advanced menu for the controller button designation screen and on mouse properties in control panel for windows. either way wont fix the fact that it is not truly an analog game pad and we should all sue them for false advertisement

Rich  on February 26th, 2007

I am totally in with the false advertisement on this!!! I bought this souly for my kids to use especially with call of duty. My son was totally disappointed when I told him it will not work. If anyone has contact information for the company, please let me know. I will be checking back on this site for some time to come. Maybe we will all get lucky and find some good info. If anyone needs the software, same as link above,

hello all!

i used this controller with great success on the “deer hunter” game on my xp laptop. then i bought a new laptop with vista.

in vista, the deer hunter game works fine and the laptop recognizes the controller. i can open the recoil program to assign my buttons the way i want them for deer hunter. but when i open deer hunter, the controller is dead. i tried it with the analog/mouse buttons on and off in all combo’s.
then i tried to have the recoil program and deer hunter run in xp mode.

so far nothing has worked. anyone with advice?

this was a great controller for me in deer hunter on my xp laptop. like to relive those fine moments in vista!!

I have used the 908 and now the 909 for a few years now. Have only had one game it wouldn’t work with (prince of persia the 2 thrones) works with all emulators I have. The only problem I’ve found with it is reliability. Me and friends play madden 07 alot and we usually go through atleast 2-3 controllers a month each. Either the buttons begin to stick or the the cheap plastic on the analog controllers break and the button comes clean off, also the cords are usually very fragile so try not to just hit the button and let it go, but guide the cable in. I’m going to switch to a logitech gamepad or a playstation 2 with adapter. The recoils will get you by, but they are not going to last long so plan on getting a reliable controller.

Im never getting Vista cause i of this awsome controller, I use it for my Emulators, GTA San Andreas, and More games, the only drawback is the left analog sticks sensitivity to the slightest pressure, even after releasing the stick it moves my character to the right, and i must constantly add force to put in position.

retractable wire? cool you may think but wow its so horrible. The slightest movement of the wire and your gamepad will reset itself to the usb hub. If this happens while you are playing a game you have to quit out.

Help me out here. I can get this controller to work with EVEN my ROMs. But it wont work with Duke Nukem Atomic. It registers and all, and works, but when it’s inserted, duke tugs to the rights. I can’t figure out why he’s strafing. I was wondering if I need a driver to get it to run with DOS, maybe? I have three versions here of the game, with different problems with each. The old Duke 3D doesn’t even read it. The Dos version of atomic sets all directional movement to forward. I tried reconfiguring it, but it give me hell. Plus, I used to get it to run my mouse onscreen, like in windows, but it stopped doing that. I downloaded your driver and reinstalling it to no avail. This is ridiculous.

Merix  on June 21st, 2007

Hey, if the damn thing pushes you to the right, use a small piece of tape to hold the right stick to the left. I’m playing duke now. I noticed someone posted here too had a problem with that. Hope it helps!

not long ago i purchased a game elements gge909 controller so i could play vice city on my computer. it worked fine for a while but now it seems that tommy has a mind of his own as far as where he wants to go. this also applies to driving and flying. i didnt spend very much for it so i guess i shouldnt have expected much from it. i thought at first it was just my controller gone bad but my friends son has the same controller and it is doing the exact same thing as mine. i would recomend saving your money and buying a better, more expencive controller.

Fishboy  on July 19th, 2007

I just bought this gamepad at walmart, they used to sell logitech rumblepads which are far superior but they stopped selling them so i had to buy the recoil pad, it works ok, but theres no button to turn off the rumble feature and it stays on sometimes even when you pause games, so i just deleted the drivers, it seems to work better with the default xp sp2 drivers, although theres no rumble function, however i don’t like the rumble feature anyway and i’m sure it shortens the gamepads lifespan.

Fishboy  on July 19th, 2007

I just found out that philips is the parent company of game elements, you can goto philips.com and they have the gamepads on their site, so i’m sure you can get drivers and support for them since they are still selling them.

I purchased one of these gamepads from Walmart because they didn’t have the Saitek brand controller that I have used with my PC for years. ( I had always bought the Saitek brand at Walmart. ) This controller, though it works, definitely does NOT have anywhere near the response of the Saitek pad. I cannot even approach any of my previous high scores using this product. My recommendation would be DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

ThunderZ  on July 21st, 2007

Just picked one up myself from wall world for the Wifes` game. Ran across this site\thread trying to make sure we had the latest drivers. The pad was detected right out of the box and XP sp2 did install the drivers. However it would not function with her rather obscure game, Dungeon Lords. We installed the software and are now in the process of creating a Profile. The pad was cheap and she did not want to wait for me to mail order a good name brand. I will try to post back if we are succesful.

ThunderZ  on August 1st, 2007

Sorry. Just remembered to check back in. After some playing around (actually reading the instructions). She created a profile, custom assigning the pad buttons to her liking, it is working pretty good. Every once in a while it does become a bit unresponsive though. I believe it has to do with the USB plug. Just have not tracked it down to see if it is the female on the tower or the male on the game pad cord. We have had better game pads, but for the money this one is ok.

I bought this damn thing for doom3 and quake4. when i try to use the up and down arrows on the directional pad instead of going say 12 clock when pressed up, the pad goes about 1 o clock making it very hard to run and fire a weapon while being accurate. it sucks. i went to the game controller in the control panel and when you don’t have the pov linked to the left analog stick and you press the up arrow on the directional pad, you can see the error. again instead of being at 12 o’clock its at 1-2 o’clock and down on the directional is the same way. anyone know if there is a better driver then the .2 version that’s comes on the install cd??? or possibly if there is a fix.

Dustin  on August 8th, 2007

Don’t use a gamepad for first person shooters. Keyboard + mouse is by far the best control mechanism.

My right thumbstick is messed up up and down is left and right how do i fix that.

Try re-calibrating it.  on August 14th, 2007

Try to Recalibrate it. I purchased this stick a few years ago, and have never had a problem with it. By far the most versatile and dependable Joystick I’ve ever had in my 25+ years of gaming. Thing works great for Flying, Driving, Etc. And all you saying you can’t get it to work for the First person shooters, Why in the heck would you want to use a joystick for a first person shooter anyways?

Aaron  on September 2nd, 2007

This controller is a piece of shit in terms of the cord. Mine broke so I took the controller apart and put a regular cord on it. Now I like it a hell of a lot better, plus it’s a lot lighter now that the big damn recoil device isn’t inside their. If anybody wants to change theirs, here’s how. On the board (looking at it with the back off) just snip those 4 wires. from right to left it goes…red, black, green, white. So if you have an extra usb cord or device that you can get the cord from the wires will be the same. Do some soldering and bada bing. I seen some ps2 to pc controller adapters out their…if I can figure out how to make one of those I’ll let you guys know. If you come across something send me an email at: techman619@sbcglobal.net

I didn’t really like to use this controller for much besides racing or sports games until I found this program called Xpadder (google it). You can map out all the keyboard or mouse characters on your controller, and it even has our controller listed for presets. Not only do I find this cool for games, but sometimes I use it when for regular computer use. I would recommend you at least try xpadder out, and if you don’t like it with your games then hey, don’t use it. Later.

nathan  on September 8th, 2007

in reply. from what I’ve seen there isn’t any drivers for vista yet (and there probably won’t be) From a previous reply someone said that vista should load the drivers automatically. if you get it in Control Panel and are able to see you button flash when you press them you know that the controller works. unfortunately this controller dos’nt work with many games so a suggestion would to be is to get the freeware program called Xpadder (Google it) it takes any keyboard or mouse command and can apply it to the game pad. so to use it go into your game and see what keyboard commands you what on ther game pad and go into Xpadder and put them to the button you want. As for the games in vista. not many old games will play but something to try would to be to right click the main game file and select properties, select the `compatibility tab` and select to work with Windows XP SP2 (this might work but i’m not 100% sure)
i have the same controller and am running winXP Pro, Tt first some parts didn’t work right (serton game would not run) but i read this forum page and tried out the software minchind and rewired the usb cable (there crazy to put a cable like that on a game pad) so know it a pretty great game pad. unfortunately the vibration dos’nt work i think it a manufacturer defect be cause it didn’t work in the properties effect tab. after i rewired the usb cable the left moter work so i reopened it to see if i could get both to work and know nether of them work anymore. (lol) hey it’s a pretty good controller after you get all the bugs out…………. (extra note to previous comment: going back to WinXP on a vista might not work if you bought it in the store with vista preloaded on it. but if you upgraded to vista from XP you would be ok to go back) if you got it preloaded with vista you probably don’t have any drivers for XP in witch you would have a bad day reinstalling WinXP

HELP, anyone? I just bought this controller chose it over logitech because it had more buttons, like the esc and enter button which other controller don’t have, but after installing the cd or trying to install it I got the a (inif) error and it tolled me to unplug the conroller and then it did nothing, I don’t know if the software completed the install or if it’s missing some file fron the cd after the error. I tried a few games with it, the profiler came up, but the esc and enter button don’t seem to work with any games and games don’t have those buttons in the config menu. Now in the controller manual it says :
The Esc button provides the same function as the esc key on your
windows keyboard. Note:You must have installed the mouse and
key profile editor software. This button is not MAC compatible.
• The Enter button provides the same function as the Enter key on
your Windows® keyboard. Note:You must have installed the mouse
and key profile editor software. This button is not MAC compatible.
• The Mouse button is used when the mouse and key profile editor
emulation software is installed and it will activate mouse
movement mode. Note:This button is not MAC compatible.

WHERE is the mouse and key profile editor software????

Any help would appreciated before I get pissed at the thing and return it to walmart, Thanks!!!

Hi, i have the wireless version from Game Element, and the cable from the receiver was so fragile, i broke it. I took a better USB cable from a old webcam, and surprise!!! On my Game Element receiver, the red wire represent the power ground and the black wire is the +5V (I always verify what i do before a job like this) The yellow wire is the shield, and it was connected with the red one, what a clue!!! this message is to warn anyone who want to do this too. TCHEK THE PINOUT CAREFULLY. Also, the solder quality is very bad, all SMT components was installed by hand by a cheap labor, and i’m shure that my grandma can do better with heated fork and plumbing solder wire! Enjoyyyyyyy

I like the game pad. I am a amature gammer anyway. I only have one issue that this pad does. I was wondering if anybody else has had this happen. The pad is the USB GGE909 model. What it does is in mouse mode it will work fine for a while then the cursor will just take off and you can’t stop it unless you turn it off on the controller. Then unplug it and plug it back in the port then it will work ok. After you rerun the gge909 program the mouse option will work again. I plugged it into my PC running Win ME! And it recognized it with no problem. Just the nagging mouse problem is all the trouble I am having with it I think it is an ok gamepad.

How Do You Set The Game Pad to be the mouse for your computer

LeeTheDeuce  on November 20th, 2007

Hi,
I also got this pad from wal-mart over a year ago for about 12$ and the biggest downside to the controller is the way they number the 4 buttons, if you look at logitech or any other “name brand” controller they are numbered how they “should” be. So for me to play madden with this controller it is quite different and difficult til you play for a while and get use to the difference. for the price it works great. I have seen since other cheap controllers that also number theirs different from this one and logitech.
Thanks for the driver, and good luck all.

How can I fix this myself? It makes my mouse function that way too. Please let me know as I am a Halo buff and didn’t buy a 360.

robissogreat  on December 1st, 2007

I just bought one of these and programed it into my emulator. At first it worked, I was playing but then my ninja turtle just started walking into the wall and when I went back to the configuration screen, I would try to program it and the buttons would appear in the wrong order and I even got a number “9″ and “0″. Those buttons arent even on the damn controller!!! Is it because I’m using windows Vista?? PLEASE HELP ME! I just figured out these emulators and I’m Staring at all these great games and a keyboard.

michael  on December 2nd, 2007

can you please send me a copy of the manual for the recoil gamepad

RuFF  on December 4th, 2007

I don’t kno wif its a good idea 2 download the “drivers” or not b/c AVG virus scan detects it as unwise.exe, which iv did a little research on it and alot of things are saying it is an uninstallation file, but it still has me wondering, windows should have compataible drivers for the game pad anywayz, i just know what there is an option of using the pad as your mouse, which is why i downloaded the file.. but no luck with that 1..

Dustin  on December 4th, 2007

AVG is giving you a false positive.

If you’re concerned, use any of the free online virus scanners to check the file.

This driver will most likely not enable the “use as mouse” function that a few commenters have mentioned. I found this driver a couple years ago for the first version of the Recoil pad. I’ve seen the newer version on the shelves at Wal Mart and it looked like a different piece of hardware.

si1entknig4t  on December 5th, 2007

Hey all, did a little digging found my control pad was distributed through wal-mart, by Philips, the tv maker. You sure can’t find anything on the packaging that gives any company info.

si1entknig4t  on December 5th, 2007

Guess I should have read all the posts, first.

farscape  on December 8th, 2007

I have two of these and for the most part they work absolutely fantastic! I still have both CD’s in mint condition [made backup copies and use those] if anyone needs the Install CD I can make an ISO…

What I was wondering is this… I have used it for emulation software and most of them have a built in adjustable “dead zone” for the sticks, I have one however that does not. Is there any way to adjust the “dead zone” outside the emulator? The problem is this… the joystick is registering slight movement even when it is not being used and this is causing problems in the games. If anyone can help please let me know!

Bob  on December 9th, 2007

Hey…i have the GGE909 and i was wondering if the driver for the GGE908 would still work on mine. And how many axes and buttons are on it?

Kevin  on December 12th, 2007

These controls are horrible. They bomb out and stop responding after a few minutes of use. They stop registering button presses and the left analog stick registers left movement constantly after about 20 minutes of play. These controllers are absolutely the worst made ever. They are not gamer friendly at all. Total garbage!

I found this controller at Wal Mart and I wanted to try it out on my N64 emulator. So I install the driver, configure all the controls, and try the the analog out… It’s absolutely horrible. The movement is really sensitive and stiff, and the controller like o jerk to the right when I’m not even touching the thing. I’ve tried calibrating the piece of shit and that doesn’t even help. What a fucking disappointment. DO NOT buy this controller is your asking for a decent analog stick.

Josh  on February 12th, 2008

From what I’ve read, Crysis does not currently support any type of gamepad setup and the gamepad option is grayed out. You always have the option of using the controller’s software to define keyboard buttons to gamepad buttons, but you’re only able to use 1 analog stick in place of the mouse. I tried using the controller for Crysis and found it way easier to just use the keyboard and mouse.

anyone know anything about this?

tefryjethrohobab  on February 18th, 2008

this is slightly off topic but it is about making this thing work, so…
i got the gge909 a short while back and was rather disappointed in the poor quality of the analog stick movement as i have seen many here complaining about. My d-pad also has the same prob. these controllers do not seem to have been built in a clean environment and are thus dirty even brand new and in need of a good cleaning. here’s how:
1.)carefully take it apart
2a.) to clean the analog sticks put 1 drop of sewing machine oil on the center hub of each of the 4 POTs (2 on the sides of either stick). then move the sticks around a lot to work it in.
2b.) to clean the d-pad use a standard pencil eraser and lightly clean the contacts both on the board and the rubber button pads.
3.)carefully re-assemble, making sure not to crush the ribbon cables.
mine works great now. just like a new game pad should :)

david  on February 21st, 2008

i bought this controller, and guess what dosent work im telling you this has been the worst thing i have bought. If you looking for an actual good pc controller go with saitek. Seriously i had one which i lost dont know how thats even possible. I went back to wal-mart looking for it and nope, but no i bought this one, big mistake 4 button the other is 6 which is better. So i tried to connect this and guess what dosent work with my pc. Honestly the only good thing about this is just wasted money, which its not great.

Janna  on March 1st, 2008

fuck it im taking it back. can anyone suggest a cheap game pad for vista?

jake  on March 6th, 2008

Thanks, Dustin (I’m assuming this is your site). I appreciate both your effort AND the number of times you’ve warned us about the false virus snag. ;-)

I’m going to try your drivers tonight , but so far I agree with most of the other posts here in the last couple of months…this pad doesn’t work well. I played NHL 2008 with it, and it worked decently for about 2-3 minutes, then slowly it would start losing functions on it, first the left analog stick, then the right. Eventually it wouldn’t work at all. I tried re-installing the drivers that came with it AND drivers I’ve found elsewhere on the Internet…still wouldn’t work at all. I tried plugging it into a different USB port, at which point it would recognize it and I could start the process all over again–with the same results. When I ran out of new USB ports, then it wouldn’t work at all. And yes, I paid very close attention to the directions not to adjust the length of the cord while playing.

I finally gave up on it and went back to an old pad that I had, leaving this one plugged into a free USB port. 5 minutes later, it just started rumbling incessantly for no apparent reason. I unplugged it from the USB port and it continued to rumble FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES AFTER THAT! Maybe it’s haunted…. ;-)

When you first wrote this, back in 2005, the GGE908 might have been a good product, but things could have changed over the years. I don’t believe the GGE909 is a good product now. As comfortable and nice looking as it is, it’s not worth a nickel to me the way it works. I’m hoping your drivers can change that (assuming 908 drivers work with the 909)…otherwise it’s going back.

Thanks again, Dustin! =)

J

Dustin  on March 12th, 2008

I was using Win XP Home SP2 and I had a hard time calibrating my gamepad because it wouldn’t center to complete a circle in calibration mode. It would just hook a left without being touched and move on to the x/y axis stage. This driver worked for me. Thank you.

madsix  on April 13th, 2008

well it seems to work thanks for careing i would of had a dead stick if it wasnt for your hosting

Anonymous  on April 21st, 2008

Hey

If you are using vista, you must do the regular install with the instructions. Then restart your computer and run “C:\Program Files\Game Elements\GGE909 PC Recoil Pad\infInstall2k”

It will take forever and then ask you to unplug the game controller and press ok. Do it.

Now it should work. If the mouse isn’t working make sure you have the “Mouse” button in the center of the controller active.

Anonymous  on April 23rd, 2008

Also,

If you plug it in and the the analog stick isn’t in the normal position it will “pull” one way or the other

to fix unplug and plug back in

Mike  on May 9th, 2008

This controller is useless. I bought one at Wal-Mart yesterday (it was the ONLY game controller for PC available on the shelf). Windows XP can’t use it, saying “the device has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it”. I followed the installation directions – plugged in the controller first, then used the disc. AS it installs, the program continually asks me to “Plug in the device” when it’s already plugged in. I know the controller has power because it’s lighting up, but for some reason my PC can’t recognize it. All it knows is that there is an unknown device attached to a USB port. I have tried this on TWO computers and get the same problem on both.

According to the FAQ on the manual, Win XP should recognize the controller as a GGE909 Recoil GamePad because of HID (Human Interface Device) drivers. Neither my, nor my father’s PC seem to have these HID files, because neither system can recognize the controller.

Downloaded drivers have no help. How can I get WinXP to see this P.O.S.? Shouldn’t it have plug & played anyway?

hi, i use VISTA, and i have had this pad for close to 6 months, and it has worked fine, except that for certain games, like fifa 07 and fifa 08, the right analog doesnt work.
I also am not able to use the mouse function either.
if anyone has a solution for this please post it here. thank you for ur help

unknown  on May 25th, 2008

I have the vista basic and I have the GGE909 Recoil gamepad which is currently connected to my computer with no problems. Except for the part where I had to install the HID Game Element, HID device Controller for Keyboard and HID device Controller for Mouse from the Windows 2K driver in order for the emulation software to work. Without those 3 drivers the emulation won’t work. That was the problem with the original cd setup, there was 3 missing drivers(ones I mentioned earlier). Mouse, Keyboard emulation will work after those 3 are installed.

unknown  on May 25th, 2008

But the thing is that the controller starts to move to the left without me even touching any of the controls. So, I unplug it from the usb and plug it back in then it stops for a while, but I’m not sure how long though.

unknown  on May 25th, 2008

I think it is related to the mouse driver because it wouldn’t take control even when the pointer was moving by itself. Sometimes the keyboard controls wouldn’t work when I pushed the button to them in the emulation mode. I think the drivers for the emulation software may need serious overhauling and debugging.

I don’t use this anymore, but if I recall correctly the only thing the install does is makes Windows recognize it. You don’t get any programs of any sort.

You just have to go into control panel and configure the gamepad/joystick.

Luis  on October 24th, 2008

To robissogreat: those buttons actually exist, the GGE909 has 12 programmable buttons (which are enumerated from 0-11). So on the controller button 9 would be the “start” button and button 0 would be button “1″. below is the button positions and their mappings.

9=start
8=select
10=pushed left analog stick
11=pushed right analog stick
4,5,6,7=the 4 shoulder buttons

No you didnt. If you really do have this virus (if it’s undetectable HOW DO YOU KNOW?!?!), you got it from somewhere else.

Did you even read the first post where it’s mentioned that some anti-virus programs throw a false positive on the file?

SOLUTION (FINALLY) TO USE CONTROLLER IN XP x64 AND SHOULD WORK WITH VISTA x64 SINCE YOU DO NOT NEED TO INSTALL DRIVERS!!

Solution is VERY VERY SIMPLE.

If you want the program that comes with the controller then go ahead and install the drivers. I recommend xpadder instead. Installing the drivers is not needed with my method.

Things you need to know:
To get to device manager go to control panel and select system. Go to the hardware tab then click on device manager.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO INSTALL THE DRIVERS! They are already in Windows. The only thing you would need to install this attached driver installer for would be if you want to use the crappy button mapper.

USE Xpadder to map your buttons!

Latest version of Xpadder free version:
http://www.xpadder.com/Xpadder5-3.zip
http://www.xpadder.com/Xpadder5-3.rar

At the end of the solution method I have solutions to common errors that happen and are easily solved. If you have anymore questions email me at pieszbob1@hotmail.com and I’ll post your question with the answer here. This method is fairly simple and straight forward. Defiantly worth it considering the controller was only 10-15 bucks!

Now to the fun:

First off uninstall the controller from the device manager then unplug the controller. Doing this gives you a fresh start. If you have never plugged in the controller before then you do not need to worry about this part.

So with a fresh start, plug in the controller. It will show up as GGE909 or PC RECOIL etc..if it shows up as “unknown usb” when you plug it in, scroll on down to the end of this post to learn how to fix this error. If you try to do my method while the controller is showing up as “unknown usb” then I guarantee my method will not WORK FOR YOU!

Go to the device manager and locate the controller (Should have a yellow question mark next to it in xp.).

Right click and go to update driver.

Select “install from a list or specific location”

Then select “Don’t search, I’ll choose…etc..”

Highlight “Human Interface Devices” and press next

In the left pane make sure “Standard system devices” is highlighted

In the right pane choose “USB Human Interface Device” and click next.

A warning popup might come up, if so click yes. The driver should install with no problems.

Now you will have another unknown device show up in the device manager list. This device will show up as “Unknown device”. Like before it also will have a yellow question mark by it. Stands right out.

Repeat the steps above to update the driver.

Once you get to the screen with two panes again MAKE SURE the left pane has “Standard system devices” highlighted, just like before.

This time in the right pane you MUST select “HID-compliant game controller” then click next. This driver should also install with no problems. Like previously, if a popup warning comes up click yes. Also if the driver doesn’t install correctly just start over again from scratch by uninstalling the controller!

The controller is fully installed now!

Yep, that’s it!

Now go to control panel then go to “Game Controllers” Sit back with relief now that you finally have the controller installed properly!

“UNKOWN USB” ERROR SOLUTION:
Now the first time you plug in the controller, if comes up saying unknown usb, you must uninstall the controller. Right click on the controller and click on “uninstall” This, of course, is done in the device manager. Once installed, unplug the controller, wait a minute, then plug it back in.

Keep repeating these steps until the controller says GGE909 or PC RECOIL when plugged in. Just pretty much make sure it says anything but, “Unkown USB” when it’s plugged in to your computer. MY METHOD WILL NOT WORK until you get it to stop coming up as “Unkown USB”. Just uninstall, unplug, then plug in again until it shows up correctly.

One last note, on my laptop I had to do this method for every usb slot I plugged it in to.

I really hope this helps out people using x64 xp and for vista users search online how to manually choose drivers to install. If you know how to install the drivers manually in vista x64 then you can pretty much follow this guide as well. I’m almost certain it will work in all versions of x64 and more than likely windows 7!

I developed this method after buying this controller and being too stubborn to drive back and return it, lol! I spent around 4 hours straight one night researching and searched the hell out of Google trying to find a solution. I could not find anything at all that would work. Just when I was about to give up I decided read the instructions again, for what seemed to be the millionth friggin time. What finally clicked for me was that on a 32 bit system you are instructed to plug in the controller before installing the supplied drivers. Well when you plug it in windows just simply installs a generic driver called “USB Human Interface Device”. I decided to manually install/assign this generic driver to the controller on my Windows XP Pro x64 edition laptop. Well finally I got the controller to light up blue and red, so I knew I was on the right path. I kinda hit a wall after that though lol, I had the mindset that the second driver would be under the game controller drivers not under the HID section. So by trial and error I messed around for an hour, not wanting to give up, because I was so damn close. Instead of trying other brands controller drivers I finally went back to the “Human Interface Devices” section and selected “HID-Compliant Game Controller” only because it made the most sense. Well to my surprise, the damn driver installed with not errors! I didn’t think it would work though still because nothing had shown up under the “Sound, Video, and Game Controllers” section in device manager. So after some more messing around I decided to check settings under “Game Controllers” in the control panel just for the hell of it! I went under the “Game Controllers” section and to my surprise (and relief) the friggin controller was finally listed! It responded perfectly to pressing the buttons and moving the joy stick. I was so damn relieved!

I’m the type of person who finds something that is challenging and keep at it until I figure the damn thing out. That is main reason why I have learned so much about computers.

Well enough of me rambling on. I’m just stoked to have finally found a working solution for us x64 users! I really hope this helps people out since everyone has been searching for a solution for what seems years! If this method works for you in not matter what version of windows please post your results on here. Also please repost this method on other sites where people are looking for a solution!

Just remember to please give me credit if you repost this method! That’s all I ask for going insane figuring out this working solution!!

BEST OF LUCK!

Question can be sent to pieszbob1@hotmail.com and I’ll reply with the question and answer on here! You can also just post on here. Looking forward to the feedback!

You didn’t get a virus. Try actually reading the post. Particularly the part that says to try using different virus scanners because some virus scanners raise a false positive on the file. I’ll even do a little bit of the work for you. Here’s an online virus scanner.

Well, no wonder they called it the “Recoil”…even they knew it was going to be enough hassle involved that eventually you would be recoilling at the idea of having WAISTED good money on such a crappy product. If I’d known how much garbage it was I wouldnt have wasted my time buying it…should be a law against garbage for big cost. They probably made 2000 percent on the crapcontroller! Shame on Phillips company for such poor work. The end. And I mean end,… mine is going straight into file G.

this file was found to have a virus.

admin: By junky AV software, maybe.

Anonymous  on November 28th, 2009

and if it doesnt have a virus, its the only DRIVER installation EVER i have installed that picks it up to contain a virus. im not a programmer but it sounds retarded to make a program that contains something that a virus scanner would pick up as a virus.

admin: No, it’s retarded for AV companies to get lazy and just check for compilers and scripting languages that viruses are known to use when plenty of legitmate software uses the same compilers and scripting languages. In short, don’t use crappy AV software.
