The main problem with Mastodon is the same problem with most social networks…it only becomes useful if you have interesting people to follow and interact with. You can follow me [at]dustin[at]makesocialboops.com (G+ makes posting that weird) once you sign up. I'm still finding interesting people to follow.
The "flagship" instance run by the guy who created it is over-capacity, but thats the thing with Mastodon, there's no real need to sign up on that "flagship" instance because all instances are interconnected.

Did your instance get DDOSed?
Hmm, not sure what's going on. The server maxed out on memory. It's back up after a reboot. I'll play close attention to it today.
