Snakes traveling between walls that are spaced varying amounts apart

…That sentence is feels wrong, but anyway…
  1. The total energy of the snake is given by E = h-bar^2 k^2 / 2 m, where k is the number of crests of the snake in the box and m its mass.

  2. me no maths looks cool though

  3. It's even better they used the same striped snake. It's interesting that some different widths seem harder to navigate.

  4. Looks like sound waves at different frequencies (which does make sense, as the "frequency" here is the limiting width of the path).

  5. I was reminded (for the previous post) of the "particle in a box" calculations from physics courses, which is where that equation comes from.  So, yeah, pretty obscure joke.

At least the sound waves are going the right direction.  (Though the resonant frequency would be based on the length of their path rather than the width.  How dare these snakes just do their own thing and spoil all these analogies?)

  6. Just so you know, this seems to be getting repeatedly added to your blog.
