In my 8-week-long struggle to successfully complete an application on Healthcare.gov, I was eventually directed to fill out Missouri's Medicaid/Medicare application even though it will be denied because of too much income.  This is so Healthcare.gov and Missouri's systems sync up (or something, after being on phone for hours I lost track).

Anyway, Missouri's application is full of poor UI and poorly worded questions.  For example, take the screenshot I just took attached below.

I am the parent of Morgan, but I have to select a yes/no answer to the question "If you are not the parent are you the primary caretaker for this person?"

Clear as mud.

  1. Both required fields.  Excellent.

  2. +Dustin Wyatt – Please clarify; Can you tell if the problem is rooted in Healthcare.gov or in the Missouri Medicaid portal?

  3. +Sandy Orenstein That is Missouri's portal. Of course, the UI/wording issues are really secondary to the problem that forced me to use Missouri's site at all. Namely that the state of Missouri has not even begun to process applications submitted to it by Healthcare.gov's systems. Healthcare.gov automatically submits an application to your state if they think someone in your household should qualify for the state's insurance and you can't continue with your Healthcare.gov application until that state application is approved or denied.

  4. argh. It's really not hard these days to make the second dropdown disabled based upon the value of the first dropdown. They need better UX people.
