I'm usually pretty hip to all the cutting edge technologies out there, but somehow I have never even heard of a single pixel camera.  Yet, now they're making 3d movies with them.

A new paper based on top climate models says that by about 2047, average temperatures across the globe will be higher than any highs recorded previously, with tropics hit earlier.

I noticed a bug over the past week or so and it seems reproducible:

1. Go to U.S. Government.
2. U.S. Government is shut down.

Expected results: Government should be working.

I'm unable to debug or propose a fix since there's not an open, transparent stack trace. Conflicting error messages are being thrown as well.

Hope you can resolve this soon. It would seem that the U.S. Government would value 100% uptime in order to be a reliable and trustworthy source for the rest of the world.

Cassiopeia A in X-Ray and visible light from Chandra and Hubble.

This image presents a beautiful composite of X-rays from Chandra (red, green, and blue) and optical data from Hubble (gold) of Cassiopeia A, the remains of a massive star that exploded in a supernova. Evidence for a bizarre state of matter has been found in the dense core of the star left behind, a so-called neutron star, based on cooling observed over a decade of Chandra observations. The artist’s illustration in the inset shows a cutout of the interior of the neutron star where densities increase from the crust (orange) to the core (red) and finally to the region where the “superfluid” exists (inner red ball.)

Photographer Charles Fréger set out to capture images from across Europe of many types of pre-Christian costumes (and some pre-Christian costumes that were co-opted by Christianity).

The photos are some fairly striking ethnography. 

Here is an example from Bulgaria where men cover themselves with goatskins to impersonate the Kukeri, who both embody and chase away evil spirits. In the past they’d brush against women to bestow fertility.
