Anyway, there's a collection of studies over the past couple of decades that seem to show that the type of man a woman is attracted to changes based upon where they are in their menstrual cycle.

This new meta-study purports to show that those studies are wrong.

The thorough review of research on the drivers of human reproduction, in the journal Emotion Review, highlighted the importance of verification in the scientific method, as well as potential problems in how science is reported in the media. Wood and her team found that the correlations between menstrual cycle and mate preference declined over time, that is, most subsequent attempts to replicate the finding showed less of an effect.
The researchers also revealed that papers that did not show a link between menstrual cycle and sexual preference — that only showed no such correlation existed — were much less likely to be accepted for publication in a journal, often despite more precise methodology.

What do women want? Here’s what scientists might have gotten wrong
Over the last two decades, studies in reproductive biology and psychology have purported to show a correlation between what women want in a male partner and the time of the month — demonstrating that which guy catches a woman’s eye changes across the menstrual cycle.

Level 3 Communications all but calls out consumer broadband providers in the USA.

It's a pretty great article with lots of behind the scenes detail about how broadband providers like Comcast connect to the wider internet and how they're deliberately harming the internet experience of their customers.

That leaves the remaining six peers with congestion on almost all of the interconnect ports between us. Congestion that is permanent, has been in place for well over a year and where our peer refuses to augment capacity. They are deliberately harming the service they deliver to their paying customers. They are not allowing us to fulfil the requests their customers make for content.

Larry Lessig is creating a SuperPAC to end all SuperPAC's

My first inclination is that if you think money is ruining politics in the USA, then you should go donate to this ASAP.

Government has failed us. More than 90% of Americans link that failure to the influence of money in politics.

Yet the politicians ignore this influence. While America founders, they spend endless time with their funders.

These funders hold our democracy hostage. We want to pay the ransom, and get it back.

We're going to kickstart a SuperPAC big enough to make it possible to win a Congress committed to fundamental reform by 2016.

Programming Sucks
Every friend I have with a job that involves picking up something heavier than a laptop more than twice a week eventually finds a way to slip something like this into conversation: “Bro,1 you don’t work hard. I just worked a 4700-hour week digging a tunnel under Mordor with a screwdriver.” …

At least 4% of people who get sentenced to death are innocent
A new study finds that if everyone sentenced to death got their cases scrutinized for the next twenty years, at least 4 percent of them would likely get exonerated. And false-conviction rates are probably higher for other cases.
