The average turkey weight 13.2 pounds before slaughter in 1929

As of 2013 that number was up to 30.2 pounds.

With advances in biotechnology, I predict that by the end of the century the average slaughtered turkey will weigh more than a cow.

(Of course, I'm referring to a 2015-era cow. End of century cows will be extinct because of the great cow uprising of 2062.)

  1. I predict the opposite… By the end of the century all commodity meat will be vat grown in huge batches. Animals killed for meat will be done so by hand and only for the highest end restaurants (ie. Taco Bell) and they will be back to their 1940s sizes to ease handling.

  2. in a few years it will be a fat sparrow….

  3. So have Americans.. lol

  4. It's all that pardoning.  Now, turkeys gobble food with impunity!  They're just like non-avian Americans.

  5. How are the turkey youth of today supposed to deal with such unrealistic beauty standards

  6. In actual fact, the domesticated turkey has gotten so large that normal mating is usually impossible, so some 98% of turkeys sold in the supermarkets are the product of artificial insemination.

Now imagine the poor guy who has that job, being asked what he does for a living at a cocktail party….

  7. +Valdis Klētnieks: He's serving as a bee for some big birds.

  8. Despite all of this, turkey is still better being thrown in the garbage instead of being eaten.

  9. +Doug Hardy: That's wasteful.  Have you considered pardoning your turkey instead, and gently suggesting that he feast on your insufferable neighbour's petunias?
