Java 64 bit doesn’t even have an updater, with no indication of one any time soon.
Also the JRE updater won't work at all for the 64 bit version. Â If you have both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions installed, only the 64 bit version will appear in Control Panel and it will lack the Update tab.
But the updater for the 32 bit version will still tell you updates are available but clicking the balloon will do nothing. Â You have to use a direct link in the Run box to access the 32 bit Java preferences and perform the update.
Or you could just say fuck it and go to the Apple Store which is the only real solution if you need Java.
