Too busy writing code to play video games

For about 8 hours I've been thinking, "OK, time to stop writing code and play some video games."  (After all it's a rainy day Saturday) But then I'd write just a little more code.

Typically you would swap the "writing code" and "play some video games" parts of that sentence.

Steering water with the Leidenfrost effect

The Leidenfrost effect is a phenomenon in which a liquid, in near contact with a mass significantly hotter than the liquid's boiling point, produces an insulating vapor layer which keeps that liquid from boiling rapidly.

Replicating the interesting parts of being a 1000 year old vampire

It's about replicating the interesting parts of being a 1000 year old vampire.

Different experiences level a person up at different rates. You could work some boring job all your life and be 60 and not be much more awesome than your average teenager. On the other hand, some people have such varied and so much life experience that by 30 they are as awesome as a 1000 year old vampire.

This reminds me that it's possible to conduct your life with more or less efficiency, sometimes by orders of magnitude. Further, while we don't have actual life extension, it's content we care about, not run time. If you can change your habits such that you get 3 times as much done, that's like tripling your effective lifespan.

That underwater waterfall is a little foreboding

Ethan Siegel posted about this underwater waterfall here: http://scienceblogs.com/startswithabang/2013/09/22/weekend-diversion-an-underwater-waterfall/

It's quite interesting, but am I the only one who gets a foreboding feeling just looking at that thing?
